ADPList Group Session Beta Stage Research

ADPList is a platform where people can find, book and meet mentors around the world.

We are rolling out a new feature - Group Session. It allows mentors to hold a workshop, event or session that can include up to 200 attendees.

Background

The product team wants to make sure the design is easy to use and also want to understand the user experience, challenges, and motivation around this new feature.

Research Goals

Understand motivations to sign-up, show-up, and why choose GS

Validate user journey map and find out challenges and pain points

Gather feedback on

GS experience

Methods

Qualitative
In-depth interview and
Cognitive Walkthrough

To better understand users' pain points and challenges,
I screened participants through an internal list and scheduled
9 interviews.

Quantitative
Survey

A total of 40 current users were surveyed online from May 27, ---- May 31, 2021.

For open-ended questions, I used coding methods to capture what the answer was about and summarise the results with data-driven objectives.

User Journey Map

Based on the user journey, users did not have enough time to read the pop-up confirmation. The link is no longer on the website after the session starts.

Key Findings

Through the survey result and the contextual interview, here are the consolidated pain points of the respondents:

  • Confirmation is unclear

  • Timing: as in time difference around the world

  • Distraction by taking notes: non-native speakers

  • Mentees find the most challenge and top pain point is the session they want to attend is already full

  • Mentors shared the disappointment of seeing high sign-ups but low show-up

Proposed Solutions

1. Guide users to the dashboard where they can modify and find session information.

Current User Flow

Currently, after clicking RSVP, a pop-up confirmation appears in the upper right corner for 5 seconds. This does not give the user, especially non-native speakers, enough time to read the full message.

I also used Hotjar as one of the tools to see how people navigate through registration process.

As you can see, there are a lot of back and forth looking between pop-up notification and session card itself

Proposed new User Flow

Instead of a pop-up window, I suggested

  • Show members the clear message of confirmation

  • Redirect to the dashboard where they can find session links and cancel bookings

2. Add "Waitlist" feature

According to the preliminary data, the waitlist button is expected to appear near the message that conveys "session is full".

RESULT

This project is still a work in progress to implement new features, but the product team is already seeing that the research and interviews are very helpful for the beta version before it is rolled out to all mentors.
